Storing Food for Winter
I spent the day storing up food for winter. This does *not* mean that I spent the day pigging out by the refrigerator, nor does it means I spent the day canning fruit preserves.
In fact, I spent the day picking up acorns. By the size of the acorns, I'd guess this winter will be a cold one, which is good for the tulip bulbs and bug control. I'm not a squirrel, by the way, I'm picking up the acorns because they're pretty.
And because I'm going to begin growing Oak trees this winter in my office-converted-greenhouse/lab. A year from this coming spring (do the math, that's a year-and-a-half) I'll plant them at varrying locations to celebrate May Day.
The mums and pansies are doing brilliantly. They make a wonderful colour contrast there in the bed. I'm going to beginning planting next spring's bulbs in between them in the dext few days. I love planting bulbs. It's like little time capsules that spring up as the winter comes to a close. Little miracles in the shape of ugly, brown blobs. Gotta love the irony.
